It is absolutely crucial that in making your film you attempt to make it look and sound as professional as possible.
Pay close attention to :
- following your storyboard
- lighting each scene (borrow a light from me for this because even if you are filming and believe there is enough natural light it is almost certain that the image will have more depth and richness if filmed with extra artificial light)
-Use a digital sound recorder if filming outdoors to avoid wind muffling
- check you have a range of shots (the worst student films are filmed almost entirely in long shot)
- don't zoom (it looks amateurish) - it's better to make camerawork dynamic through tilts, pans, tracking or postproduction
- don't rely on long takes - no shot should last longer than three seconds as a general rule
- check framing of each shot carefully and use marks for blocking
- pay close attention to mise-en-scene to improve representations
